Pat - a - Cake, Pat - a - Cake...

I haven't been making very many cakes lately. It is kind of a long process, so I enjoy a break in between orders.
Today, I got to do a fire truck cake. I alway stress out about how I'm going to draw things on my cakes, but they always turn out fine. I guess I should quit stressin'!

I decided that today, I would share my cake decorating process, because I'm sure you are all just dying to know!

This is what I call my clean slate. I took this picture while I was waiting for the icing to dry a little. It has to dry some before I start drawing on it.

Next, I use a toothpick to draw the image on the cake. This one came from a picture off of the www. I found a Gymboree sweater with this fire truck on it and it looked pretty do-able.

Then I pick the color that is used the most and start outlining the image. The picture is on that paper above the cake.

Next, I start mixing colors and filling in the image. I do terrible wheels. I know, I am my biggest critic.

I usually do the border first, but on this particular cake I wanted to wait until the end so that I didn't smash it.
Ta - da! The finished product! How fun is that? Personally, this was one of my favorites.
I even did his name in flames. Oh, and now for the clean up. Yuck, the worst part of the whole deal. I have to use such hot water to cut through the Crisco that my hands will be dried out for a week!

So, that's what I did today. What did you do today?

Are you kidding me??!! You, a human, did this cake??!! Very, very good and i'm completely impressed and in awe.

No creativity at all with stuff like this!

And, I'd be honored that you would want to add me to your favorites.
I'm glad we found each other. I'll be back again!

Hugs~
